Penology, also called Penal Science, is the division of criminology that concerns itself with the philosophy and practice of society in its efforts to repress criminal activities. Penologists specialize in prisoner rehabilitation and correctional facility management. As a result, they typically work all day with prison inmates.  Penologists develop rehabilitation programs and work closely with prison inmates to reduce recidivism rates and teach inmates how to live productively.

The Bachelor of Arts in Penology, Correction and Administration is intended to produce graduates who are capable of oversee the development and implementation of correctional and rehabilitation policies and programs in the criminal justice system.

Qualification Required

To qualify for admission to this programme, candidates must meet any of the following minimum requirements:

  1. Holder of K.C.S.E certificate, grade C+ or its equivalent
  2. Holder of K.A.C.E certificates with a minimum of two principals and one subsidiary pass or its equivalent
  3. Holder of a 2 year relevant diploma from an accredited institution which is recognized by the university senate
  4. Holder of an advanced relevant diploma from an accredited institution which is recognized by the university senate
